tom played a crucial role in the murder of Gatsby. He told the murderer that it was Gatsby whom ran over and killed his wife. This enraged him causing him to shoot and kill Gatsby. Daisy's role was she was the actual murderer of the wife whom shifted the blame, and did not take responsibily for her actions...this leading to the accusation and death of Gatsby
