I have a few questions for barrel racers?

ok well im gonna be doing barrel racing in rodeos next summer and i was just wondering were i can get a good reliable pair of skid boots and also i use a snaffle bit with the rollers on it. well my horse always has been good with that bit but doesn't wanna stop or listen to it ne more. ne bit recommendations? and ne tips on how to get faster times or better turns? i have been riding barrels my whole life but never at rodeo level so im nervous and excited at the same time and i always like to get tips. if u know of any good equipment for my horse please let me know. im on a budget right now but i need something reliable. and also when i go to turn the second barrel shes been wanting to trot and she never did that before why is she now doing this? no mean answers! thanks!!~
