On Being Brought from Africa to America by Phillis Wheatley , ?

It is one of the variations of the ballade form of poetry, popularized by Chaucer. So it has been around for a long time. Ballade poetry is meant to be song-like - often meant to evoke a parent singing to a child. Perhaps that is what Ms. Wheatly had in mind.
