She's afraid of the dark. Do I try to help her get over it?

you sound like your doing the right thing, my parents just put me in the complete dark by myself when i was little and afraid, thinking it would make me realize theres nothing to be afraid of when nothing hurt me, but it sort of did the opposite. now im 17 and have basically the dark version of claustrophobia, whenever im alone in the dark, i feel like my throats closing up and it gets hard to breath and my heart races and i get dizzy and feel really panicked, sort of like a mini panic attack, and ill do anything to get out, so i carry a mini superbright flashlight in my purse and backpack everywhere in case i ever get caught in the dark, i know that there are no monsters and nothing can hurt me and the room is exactly like it was in the light, but i cant help it, i get irrational in the dark, slowly introducing it to her and being there with her to comfort her will help her a lot, continue the same routine to slowly introduce her to it instead of shocking her system
